Road System

A58-TEEM directly connects the A4 Torino-Trieste motorway, through the Agrate Brianza junction, with the A1 Milano-Bologna motorway, in the Municipality of Cerro al Lambro, for a total route length of 32 kilometres (specifically: 1.5 kilometres in the Province of Monza and Brianza, 23.8 kilometres in the Province of Milan and 7.2 kilometres in the Province of Lodi). The configuration of the infrastructure is three lanes in each direction, plus an emergency lane, with the use of the most modern technology available to guarantee maximum safety for travellers as well as to pursue a reduction in air and noise pollution. The route of the A58-TEEM is interconnected with motorways (A1 Milano-Bologna, A35 BreBeMi and A4 Torino-Trieste) and with the ordinary road network in the area (through junctions at Pessano con Bornago, Gessate, Pozzuolo Martesana, Liscate, Paullo and Vizzolo Predabissi).

During the design phase, particular attention was paid to the choice of the correct type of roadway based on the characteristics and shape of the area crossed. The A58-TEEM runs for a total of 8.7 kilometres below ground level (excavated), while in the remaining section the route is either level or in an embankment.

Two Service Areas (Muzza Est and Muzza Ovest), awarded by the Concessionaire to Sarni Ristorazione, are located at its heart.

In addition, 2.1 kilometres of viaducts were built to pass over waterways and rail networks, and one kilometre of artificial tunnels was constructed in areas of particular urban complexity. In addition to the motorway route, the A58-TEEM Executive Plan, a true infrastructure-system, included 19 major interventions on the secondary road network, made available to citizens free of charge.

38 kilometres of new roads were built, while 15 kilometres of existing roads were upgraded. In addition to this, a decisive boost was given to so-called “soft mobility” through the construction of more than 30 kilometres of new cycle and pedestrian paths.

A58-TEEM is an entirely “Made in Italy” project realised according to the highest quality standards by examples of national excellence in the field of design and construction of major works. The Final Project of the A58-TEEM was published on 7 February 2011 and is the result of hundreds of meetings organised by the Concessionaire with all parties in the territories affected by the works.

The new infrastructure was built on three separate lots: Lot A, to the north, with a length of 6.2 kilometres (between the Municipalities of Agrate Brianza and Bellinzago Lombardo); Lot B, the central section, with a length of 15.8 kilometres (between Gorgonzola and Paullo); Lot C, to the south, with a length of 9.9 kilometres (between Tribiano and Cerro al Lambro). The project was carried out by the consortium of construction companies forming part of the general contractor CCT (Consorzio Costruttori TEEM).
