Around one kilometre of the municipality of Cerro al Lambro will be traversed by TEEM, which, once it passes the viaduct over the River Lambro will connect to the A1 Milan-Bologna by means of a multi-level junction.

The congested traffic situation at the so-called “Melegnano Node” requires the creation of new routes for the more efficient distribution of vehicles and HGVs. One example is the project to link SP 17 (“Santangiolina”) with SS 9 (“Via Emilia”), which involves the construction of a new section of road of approximately 1.7 kilometres crossing the River Lambro and the Milan-Bologna railway line via a viaduct (a local bridge over the Lambro).

The connection between SP 17 and SP 40 will give rise to a new bypass for the municipalities of Melegnano and Cerro al Lambro (to link with the existing road through new roundabouts), which will divide passing-through traffic from traffic bound for the built-up areas.

Tangenziale Esterna and the municipality of Cerro al Lambro will also work together on the building of a new multi-purpose sports centre, designed by the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI), with modern soccer fields with synthetic grass, a tennis court, indoor football pitches, spectator stands, services and bars, as well as parking and an access road.

The area is also destined to receive the most extensive greening work connected with the construction of TEEM. Special Environmental Project No. 5 envisages the creation of 13 hectares of new nature areas in the southern quadrant of Milan, mainly to the west of the Cerro al Lambro landfill, as well as 6 kilometres of new cycle paths, which will connect Melegnano-Cerro al Lambro and the Via Emilia.
