Municipality territory is not directly impacted by the TEEM motorway route, but given that the area is affected by significant congestion on ordinary roads, major road-related associated infrastructure is to be built to help commuters who have looking forward to such a link for at least forty years, as exclusive private funding turns a concept into reality.
A new road link will connect the “Binaschina” Strada Provinciale 40 to the “Sant’Angiolina” Strada Provinciale 17, rerouting vehicles in transit outside the built-up areas of the Municipalities of Melegnano and Cerro al Lambro. This new 3.4 km-long stretch of standard-grade road will be linked in to the existing road network via two new roundabouts.
An additional road link will also be built between the SP 40 and the “Cerca” Strada Provinciale 39 North of Melegnano as far as the Municipality of Colturano. This 1.4 km-long road will cross the River Lambro and Redefossi Canal over two bridges. A cycle/pedestrian path will be built as part of the work, along with a series of planting ventures in the countryside.
Melegnano is also the site of two Special Environmental Projects. The first of these, designated “Lambro-Melegnano”, envisages the planting of 13 hectares of new woodland and construction of 6 km of new cycle paths between the Municipalities of Melegnano, Cerro al Lambro and Vizzolo Predabissi. The second project, designated “Lambro-Rocca Brivio”, is principally located in the northern zone of Melegnano’s built-up area, with the planting of shrubs to mitigate the impact of the new link between the SP 40 and 39. Lastly, around 2.7 km of cycle/pedestrian paths will be upgraded (known as the “Percorso dei Giganti”) between Rocca Brivio, Melegnano Nord and Quartiere Sarmazzano.
